The article deals with the concept of linguistic reflection in the field of foreign language education and its verbalization on metatextual level. The ability for linguistic reflection is an indicator of a developed linguistic personality. The purpose of this research is to study the reflection of foreign language students in higher school. Definitions of the key concepts for this work are given: linguistic personality and linguistic reflection. Linguistic reflection can be verbalized through metatextual inclusions: metatextual elements and metatext. The definitions of these concepts, a brief typology and characteristics are given. The material for the study was the texts of foreign language messages (oral, written) of Chelyabinsk State University students. Metatextual inclusions that students use in their foreign language statements are analyzed and classified. The importance of using metatextual inclusions for the statement as a whole is considered. The importance of the ability for linguistic reflection is emphasized not only for the development of a student’s linguistic personality, but also for the full functioning of the educational foreign language activity itself. Conclusions are made about the relationship between the ability for linguistic reflection and the common reference level. Students who are capable of reflecting on their linguistic behavior demonstrate a higher level of proficiency in a foreign language.

The subject of the study is the texts of monuments of state acts of the 18th-16th centuries. The object of the study is the choice of speech units of authors’ strategies, which are studied from the position of synthesis of cognitive and pragmatic linguistics. The authors consider the reactions of the professional (statesmen) audience to the speech impact of authors, which is conditioned by communicative factors and determined by the immanent connection between language and thinking. Therefore, the issues of speech impact (pragmatic problem) and cognitions in natural language (problem of cognitive linguistics) should be considered in synthesis. The aim of the study is to consider a possible classification of speech units of state acts of the Middle Ages from the position of synthesis of cognitive and functional-pragmatic ways of studying the text. The objectives are the determination and classification of such units. The goals and objectives determine the research methods.

Personality is spiritual and physical unity. Spirituality is a concept that exists in the depths of the human heart, creates and protects the personality. Spirituality is related to the mental world of a person and is a system that creates conceptual essences. Spirituality – transfers the universe from the outside world into the personality, creates the inner world of a person. Morality is the combination of the personality of the world image with moral laws. Thanks to the spiritual world, the personality establishes contact with other personalities, carriers of other spiritual worlds and cultures. National material culture cannot exist without personality, and personality cannot exist without culture. From this point of view, the national identity should be examined together with its material and cultural scope. National identity is not only a certain cultural-psychological, social and linguistic phenomenon, but at the same time it is the whole material and moral context in the linguistic-cultural sense. Researchers of the problem of identity focus primarily on its historical evolution. In every period of history, personality is represented in its full meaning. In the chain of moral values, the first place is given to the individual, the second place to the society, and the third place to the state.
