Linear and nonlinear optical properties of tris thiourea zinc sulphate single crystals

Abstract: Optical absorption of tris thiourea zinc sulphate (ZTS) single crystals has been measured and its direct band gap was found to be 3.6 eV. Theoretical calculations were carried out to determine the linear optical constants such as extinction coefficient and refractive index. Further the optical nonlinearties of ZTS have been investigated by Z-scan technique with He-Ne laser at 632.8 nm. The nonlinear refractive index, absorption coefficient and third order susceptibility is found to be in the order of -5.36 ± 0… Show more

“…For the materials under consideration, equation (6) can be well fitted with n=2 and, therefore, the optical transition in ZTS crystals is of the direct allowed type. This result agrees well to the literature [19,20,29]. For direct allowed transitions, equation (6) can be written in the following form:…”

“…The crystal growth and characterization of ZTS crystal have been studied [13][14][15][16]. Since ZTS crystal is a promising NLO material, its optical properties were the subject of numerous articles [17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…9a, b, the imaginary parts of the optical conductivity of the MDMO-PPV polymer are higher than the real parts of the optical conductivity. The optical conductivity (σ opt ) is a measure of the frequency response of the material when irradiated with light and σ opt can also be calculated as [52,53],…”
