Lineage Encoding: An Efficient Wireless XML Streaming Supporting Twig Pattern Queries

Abstract: In this paper, we propose an energy and latency efficient XML dissemination scheme for the mobile computing. We define a novel unit structure called G-node for streaming XML data in the wireless environment. It exploits the benefits of the structure indexing and attribute summarization that can integrate relevant XML elements into a group. It provides a way for selective access of their attribute values and text content. We also propose a lightweight and effective encoding scheme, called Lineage Encoding, to s… Show more

“…G-Node consists of three fields such as Attribute Value List, Text List, and Group Descriptor. The group descriptor co~sis:ts of following fields like node name, location path, chIld Index; attribute index and lineage code [14]. This field helps to process XLvJL, queries efficiently.…”

“…This problem can be overcome by push technology because when the client is waiting for the data it consumes less energy (doze mode) than when the data is downloaded from the server (Active mode) [14]. In Push technology the client will be subscribe to needed data provided by the server so whenever a new update available related to the data then it will be push to the client so in this case the transaction is initiated by the server thus client can receive the data without sending the request that consumes more energy.…”

“…Lineage Encoding focuses on twig pattern queries [28] and considers grouping of nodes based on node name alone. Hence same node name in different location path can be grouped leading to ambiguity.…”

“…The time period for request transmission and response reception is called Access time. Time duration in which mobile device listens into an information transmitted through broadcast channel is called Tuning time [28]. Hence, reduced access time and tuning time are critical in mobile web services.…”
