Ytterbium doped TiO 2 nano-particles were prepared via Sol-Gel Technique under varying conditions to investigate the effects of Ytterbium ion doping on the Titania optical properties in MID IR range. X-ray diffraction analyses show that prepared Yb 3+ doped TiO 2 samples have polycrystalline structure in Anatas phase. FTIR spectrums for pure and doped samples after annealing process show a single transmission peak at wave number around 1145 cm −1 . Transmission rate of this peak depends on Yb 3+ concentrations and its value rises from 1.82% (for pure TiO 2 ) to 58.1% (for doped with 1.13 wt% Yb 3+ ). Slightly peak shift occurs at a lower doping rate with no further response to higher concentration rate. FTIR spectra gives a good indication in direction of preparation of optical band-pass filter at a wavelength around 8.733 µm (~1145 cm ).

Doped and undoped nanostructured titanium dioxides were prepared via Sol-Gel method under varying conditions to investigate the effects of neodymium ion doping on the titania optical properties in MID IR range. X-ray diffraction analyses show that the amorphous structure of the prepared samples turns to anatas polycrystalline structure after annealing process at 500˚C. FTIR spectrums for pure and doped samples after annealing show a single transmission peak at wave number around 1200 cm . The transmission rate of the peak depends on Nd 3+ concentrations and its value rises from 1.82% (for pure TiO 2 ) to 86.9% (for doped with 12%wt Nd 3+ ). Shifting on the peak occurs with a maximal shift at 7%wt Nd 3+ and then becomes stable at higher concentration. FTIR spectra give a good indication in the direction of preparation of optical band-pass filter at a wavelength around 8.34 µm (~1200 cm ).

The spectra of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) intensity and gain have been measured for solutions of laser dye Rhodamine-640 in glycerin with light scattering TiO 2 nanoparticles. Such solutions typically manifest random lasing in backscattering geometry. In this work, the conventional transverse pump geometry is used, and the ASE gain spectra are measured using a variation of the length of the illuminated (pumped) stripe. In this geometry, with increasing concentration of nanoparticles, the "unidirectional" gain along the stripe decreases dramatically. At the same time, strong narrowing of the ASE bandwidth is observed even in the absence of net gain. The experimental results help one to understand the role of the scattering particles in the light amplification. On the one hand, the particles increase a zigzag type of the light path within the amplifying medium, which results in bandwidth narrowing and strong amplification of chaotic light beams. On the other hand, the amplification of a seed beam propagating in a selected direction is dramatically suppressed. The results are discussed using simple modeling of ASE amplification and qualitative arguments.
