Limnohabitans planktonicus sp. nov. and Limnohabitans parvus sp. nov., planktonic betaproteobacteria isolated from a freshwater reservoir, and emended description of the genus Limnohabitans

Abstract: , isolated from the meso-eutrophic freshwater Ř ímov reservoir (Czech Republic), were characterized phenotypically, phylogenetically and chemotaxonomically. Both strains were chemo-organotrophic, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile rods, with identical DNA G+C contents of 59.9 mol%. Their major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine and their major fatty acids were C 16 : 1 v7c/C 16 : 1 v6c, C 16 : 0 , C 18 : 1 v7c/C 18 : 1 v6c and C 12 : 0 . Both strains co… Show more

“…It is also worth mentioning that novel bacteria were discovered through pyrosequencing in the present study. The Thermotogales bacteria were classified as Kosmotoga, which was recently proposed as a new genus (Kasalický et al 2010).…”

“…The Limnohabitans cluster so far comprises four described species that differ in morphology and phenotypic traits such as substrate acquisition patterns . The well-established probe R-BT065 targets only two of these isolates (i.e., L. parvus and L. planktonicus; Kasalicky et al 2010) with different susceptibility to protistan predation and viral lysis (Š imek et al 2010). Therefore, ecological niche differentiation of Limnohabitans ecotypes might be a possible explanation for their conspicuous longitudinal distribution in Lake Zurich.…”
