Limits on light weakly interacting massive particles from the CDEX-1 experiment with ap-type point-contact germanium detector at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory

Abstract: We report results of a search for light Dark Matter WIMPs with CDEX-1 experiment at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, based on 53.9 kg-days of data from a p-type point-contact germanium detector enclosed by a NaI(Tl) crystal scintillator as anti-Compton detector. The event rate and spectrum above the analysis threshold of 475 eVee are consistent with the understood background model. Part of the allowed regions for WIMP-nucleus coherent elastic scattering at WIMP mass of 6-20 GeV are probed and excluded… Show more

“…For comparison we also show 90 % C.L. exclusion limits from SuperCDMS [7] ( orange ), CDMSlite [23] ( magenta ), LUX [3] ( red ), and CDEX1 [22] ( purple ) and CRESST-II 2015 [84] ( blue ). The brown shaded region corresponds to the sensitivity limit imposed by the solar neutrino coherent scattering background [85] …”

“…This annual modulation is consistent with WIMP scattering off nuclei inside NaI(Tl) detectors. If the annual modulation signal observed by DAMA/LIBRA is interpreted in the context of the standard halo model [21][22][23], the favored regions of WIMP-nucleon cross-section and WIMP-mass parameter space have been excluded by other direct search experiments [24][25][26][27][28][29]. This has motivated alternative explanations for the DAMA/LIBRA signal [30][31][32][33].…”

“…At the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, in Sichuan, the China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX [155]) has undertaken several increasingly large target mass runs. Protected by a rock overburden of 2400m, the germanium detectors of CDEX-1 are enclosed in NaI(Tl) cylinders [107] enabling competitive background suppression to very low energy thresholds (0.32 keV ee ) for the Phase 1 run, the threshold reached was halved in the upgrade to CDEX-10 [109] and will ultimately be 100 eV ee for CDEX-1T [155].…”
