Limitations of Simulation Tools for Large-Scale Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of a large number of wireless sensor nodes networked together. It is a complex set of applications, link technologies, communication protocols, traffic flows and routing algorithms. Simulation is a predominant technique used to study and analyse the performance and potency of a senor network design. Since there are a huge variety of simulation tools available for WSNs, which vary in their characteristics and capabilities, it is often very difficult to decide which simula… Show more

“…In [36], a review of network modelling and simulation tools is presented, including WSN simulators, such as NS2, OPNET, and GloMoSim. Authors in [2] present a review of several WSN simulation tools. They mostly focus on their suitability for large-scale WSNs.…”

“…As the data is being collected continuously, the users or the operators can expect the data more precisely and uninterrupted data can be uploaded. If any breaks or any further problems for collection of data or for the processing of data occur, the precision and accuracy of the data collection may not be the quality data as per the expectations from the user point of view [6].…”

“…The concept of "eHealth" was growing faster day by day and more number of doctors is being using it. Figure.3 Medical applications example launched by Apple [6] The application like the telemedicine was also getting more familiar and more famous for usage and is being used by more number of doctors from India and other countries also. The usage of telemedicine had increased the collaboration of various doctors from various locations in to a single channel and can collaboratively conduct a common surgery or some typical surgeries.…”

“…For example, both Karl (2005) and Khan (2011) studied NS-2, albeit with different criteria. Khan (2011) and Stetsko et al (2011) studied TOSSIM with almost distinct properties. Table 4 presents a chronological overview of both quantitative and qualitative studies over the past decade.…”
