Limbal and axial chamber depth variations

Abstract: In an unselected population sample of 505 adult Greenland Eskimos limbal chamber depth (LCD) was estimated according to van Herick et al. (1969), and axial chamber depth (ACD) was measured optically using Haag Streit pachymetry. For comparison LCD was estimated in 308 Danes above 40 years. A marked naso-temporal asymmetry in LCD scoring was found indicating a shallower chamber at the temporal limbus. No corresponding gonioscopic asymmetry was observed. Significant age, sex, and ethnic variations were demonstra… Show more

“…[table-3] Prevalence of occludable angle was 38 % in our study. Similar study conducted in Eskimos showed prevalence of 54.6% (7) and 47.8 % ( 8) in Vietnamese population older than 55 years of age.…”

“…4 The prevalence rate of angle closure glaucoma among different population is as follows 1.0% in Singapore, 5 and 0.5% to 1.08% in India. 6,7 MATERIALS AND METHODS: Present study was carried out in department of Ophthalmology Kempegowda institute of medical sciences Bangalore from June 2011 to December 2012. This was randomized prospective study aimed at determining prevalence of angle closure in hospital patients and evaluates risk factors responsible for angle closure that may end up in angle closure glaucoma.…”

“…As previous studies reported, a shallower ACD has been considered as a risk factor for PACG, 15,29,30 and the measurement of ACD has been used as a screening tool for angle closure. 16,31,32 Myopia tends to be associated with deep ACD and has been regarded as a protective factor against angle closure.…”

“…A grade of two or less has been correlated with acute closedangle glaucoma [5]. Studies have reported suboptimal results when using LCDvh to screen for primary angle closure [2,8,9], although Foster et al [10] found that a seven-point grading system resulted in 99% sensitivity compared to gonioscopic evaluation. They along with other authors have reported good inter-observer reproducibility [9].…”
