Lignocellulose Extraction from Sisal Fiber and Its Use in Green Emulsions: A Novel Method

Abstract: Regenerated lignocellulose nanofibrils (RLCNFs) have recently piqued the interest of researchers due to their widespread availability and ease of extraction. After dewaxing, we treated sisal fiber with alkali, followed by heating and agitation, to obtain RLCNFs, which were then vacuum oven-dried. We used a variety of characterization techniques, including XRD, SEM, and FT-IR, to assess the effects of the alkali treatment on the sisal fiber. Various characterizations demonstrate that lignocellulose fibrils have… Show more

“…The significant increase in the cellulose portion within the agave bagasse can be attributed to the role of acid pre-treatment in hydrolyzing hemicellulose. These results are comparable to observations in other biomass sources such as sugarcane bagasse (32–45%) and hemp (36.5–75.6%) have been reported [ [29] , [30] , [31] , [32] , [33] ].…”

“…In addition, FT-IR is also used to determine the crystallinity structure, namely at peaks of 700-1500 cm1 as a sensitive measure of crystalline cellulose structure (Vydrina et al, 2023). C-O stretching can be seen in the 950-1200 cm1 range (Pirah et al, 2022).…”

“…Biomass is one of the world's most cost-effective, environmentally benign, and widely available resources. Cellulose, lignin, extractives, and traces of hemicellulose are all found in biomass resources (Pirah et al, 2022).…”
