Lignicolous freshwater fungi from China II: Novel Distoseptispora (Distoseptisporaceae) species from northwestern Yunnan Province and a suggested unified method for studying lignicolous freshwater fungi

Abstract: This is the second in a series of papers on lignicolous freshwater fungi from China. In this paper, eight fresh collections of asexual morphs of Distoseptispora, isolated from submerged wood in northwestern Yunnan Province, China, are characterized based on morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses of combined ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF1α sequence data. Four new Distoseptispora species (D. cangshanensis, D. obpyriformis, D. rostrata and D. submersa) are introduced, described and illustrated, with notes on… Show more

“…However, woody-based microfungi such as Dothideomycetes are relatively neglected compared to the level of research conducted on Basidiomycetes (Wanasinghe et al, 2020). In the last few years, there has been increasing attention on woody-based microfungal occurrences, and more studies are reporting on the microfungal diversity, especially in Dothideomycetes, of Yunnan Province (Bao et al, 2018;Huang et al, 2018;Luo et al, 2018;Wanasinghe et al, 2018aWanasinghe et al, , 2020Wanasinghe et al, , 2021Rathnayaka et al, 2019;Qiao et al, 2020;Thiyagaraja et al, 2020b;Yasanthika et al, 2020).…”

“…Collections and examination of specimens Fresh samples of decaying wood were collected from Guizhou Province in southwestern China. The samples were processed and examined following the method described by Luo et al (2018). The samples were incubated in plastic boxes with sterile and moist tissue at 25-30 ºC for 3 days, and then examined using a stereo microscope (SteREO Discovery v8, Göttingen, Germany) attached with Axio Cam ERc5s (Göttingen, Germany).…”
