Lights and shadows in creating a glossary about ontology engineering

Abstract: This paper addresses the lack of an explicitly agreed and defined terminology in the ontology engineering field, and particularly, the need for a glossary, which consists of terms and definitions for actions when developing ontologies. The novelty of this paper lies in the precise description of a methodology for building a glossary with the processes and activities involved in ontology development as well as the relations between them (such as subtype, composition and synonym). The methodology proposed in thi… Show more

“…An activity is an accomplishment to be implemented, including its required input and output information, whereas a process is a set of ordered activities. The meaning of activity and process are taken from [17]. The ontology validation process can be separated into an ontology analysis and reparation.…”

“…An activity is an action to be performed, including its required input and output information, whereas a process is a group or set of ordered activities. The definition of activity and process are literally taken from [2]. Ontology validation process can be divided into an activity of ontology diagnosis and repair.…”

“…The seventh step is to evaluate the ontology [32]. For doing so, several dimensions for ontology evaluation could be taken into account [33] (e.g., logical consistency, modeling issues, human understanding, ontology language conformance).…”
