Light-intensity and high-intensity interval training improve cardiometabolic health in rats

Abstract: Physical activity has the potential to reduce cardiometabolic risk factors but evaluation of different intensities of physical activity and the mechanisms behind their health effects still need to be fully established. This study examined the effects of sedentary behaviour, light-intensity training, and high-intensity interval training on biometric indices, glucose and lipid metabolism, inflammatory and oxidative stress markers, and vascular and cardiac function in adult rats. Rats (12 weeks old) were randomly… Show more

“…To diminish stress in the animals, the rats in the exercise groups were adapted to a rodent treadmill for 5 days (at a speed of 10 m/min at 0% inclination for 5 min/day) [16,17]. The process of exercise training is described in our previous study [18].…”

“…The subjects had access to food and water ad libitum. To minimize stress, rats in the training groups were familiarized with a rodent treadmill for five consecutive days (with a speed of 10 m/min at 0% inclination for 5 min/day) (27,28). Rats in the continuous exercise group were subjected to eight weeks of running, five days a week.…”
