Light Conversion Nanomaterials for Wireless Phototherapy

Abstract: In this study, a UCNP-loaded poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate hydrogel f iber was developed for NIR laser upconversion and transmission. The UCNP-loaded hydrogel f iber was applied for wireless PDT against U87MG glioblastoma.

“…Altogether, our data verified that it is feasible to improve anti‐tumor immune responses based on rational molecular engineering of the ACEA delivering platform. Even though the proof of concept on the UV‐responsive anti‐tumor MSs has been confirmed in mouse subcutanuous tumor models, the poor penetration of UV irradition would be an issue when the MSs are translated to clinic for treatment of deep gastrointestinal tumors, which hopefully could be resolved by intergrating UV‐converting materials [ 59 ] or UV‐emitting wireless devices [ 60 ] into the MSs.…”

“…This follows a shift from a non-immunogenic to an immunogenic state. [41,174,175] Unlike traditional therapy, immunotherapy mobilizes the body's immune cells to produce a tumor-specific immune response, prompting them to inhibit and kill tumor cells and motivate the body's immune system to "combat" tumors. Notably, this treatment approach can induce immunological memory and can play a longterm role in impeding tumor recurrence and inhibiting metastasis to other tissues or organs.…”

“…As a comprehensive class of nanoplatforms, RENPs have tunable morphology and surface properties and abundant surface modification sites, allowing the integration of multiple diagnostic and therapeutic functions into a single carrier via loading, chemical coupling, or integration to construct comprehensive phototherapeutic platforms. “…Among these demonstrations, the construction of noble metal nanoparticles with high structural anisotropy has attracted enormous research interest. , This is because the presence of several distinctive dimensions in one particle body can offer multiple oscillation paths of surface electrons and thus, the increase in the anisotropy of their structure can cause the generation of multiple resonance modes, which benefits the overall light harvesting efficiency . Moreover, the secondary or following absorption peaks are typically located at the near-infrared (NIR) region, which is of great importance for biorelated applications, as the biotransparent window (i.e., 750–900 nm) is right located in this region. , Meanwhile, the low energy of NIR light can ensure a better biosafety and a deeper penetration depth during laser irradiation. , …”
