Ligational behavior of new mononucleating SNOO thiosemicarbazone ligands towards 3d metal(II) ions: synthesis and spectroscopic studies

Abstract: A series of three new mononucleating thiosemicarbazone ligands possessing potential S, N, and O coordination sites have been prepared by the reaction of 2-formylphenoxy acetic acid with substituted thiosemicarbazides. Complexes of these ligands with Co II , Ni II , Cu II , and Zn II have prepared and characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. In all the complexes, the dibasic tetradentate nature of the ligand is evident.

“…The IR spectrum of the ligand ( Table 2) showed bands at 3425, 3228, 1620 and 1284 cm À1 that may be assigned to m(OH), m(NH), m(C@N) and m(CAO)phenolic, respectively. The appearance of the bands characteristic to m(C@S) ( Table 2) in addition to the absence of an IR band around 2600 cm À1 due to m(SH) support the thione nature of the ligand in the solid state [21,22]. The electronic spectrum of the ligand in DMF (Table 3) showed three bands at 275, 339 and 391 nm.…”
