Ligand-Triggered Platinum(II) Metallacycle with Mechanochromic and Vapochromic Responses

Abstract: Supramolecular coordination complexes with solidstate stimuli-responsive characteristics are highly desirable but are rarely reported. Herein, we describe two coordination-driven selfassembled monoanthracene or dianthracene-based hexagonal metallacycles by subtle structure modification. Notably, the dianthracenecontaining hexagon 1 exhibits tricolor mechanochromic and vapochromic characteristics, while the monoanthracene-containing hexagon 4 does not show obvious changes toward mechanical force. Further studie… Show more

“…Luminescent materials have always been valued by researchers due to their widely use in data storage, optoelectronic devices, biological imaging and other fields (Zhu et al, 2016;Shi et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2021;Jackson et al, 2021;Yin et al, 2021;Min et al, 2022). Metal-organic compounds (MOC), composed of metal ions and organic ligands, are expected to exhibit more interesting photophysical properties.…”

“…For example, Chen and Sun have reported a promising photodynamic therapy using a water-soluble aggregation-induced emission photosensitizer activated by an acidic tumor microenvironment ( Min et al, 2002 ). Additionally, there are ligand-triggered Pt(II) metallacycles with mechanochromic and vapochromic responses which could find wide and attractive application in biological and mechanical sensing fields ( Chen et al, 2019 ; Yin et al, 2021 ). More optoelectronic systems have been reported for chemosensing applications ( Chen et al, 2021a ; Chen et al, 2021b ; Sun et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Since the conceptualization of the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect by the Tang group in 2001 ( Luo et al, 2001 ; Mei et al, 2015 ), many types of AIE-active compounds/units have been developed. In recent years, a number of AIE-active tetracoordinated organoboron complexes have been synthesized and applied as aggregate-state emitters ( Virgili et al, 2013 ; Liu et al, 2019 ; Nitti et al, 2020 ; Ito et al, 2021 ; Yin et al, 2021 ; Min et al, 2022 ). These AIE-active complexes, which are usually obtained via linking AIE-active units such as tetraphenylethylene (TPE) or introducing rotational aryls onto the chelating backbones, mostly contain BF 2 segments.…”
