“…Specifically, a bis(thiocyanato)Pt II complex, [Pt(SCN) 2 (4,4′‐H 2 dcbpy)] ( 21 ) that bears the bipyridine ligand with two proton‐donating carboxy groups at the 4,4′‐position was synthesized. Since the ambidentate ligand SCN – can coordinate to Pt II ion at the S and N terminals, the coordination environment of the Pt II center could be changed by linkage isomerization from S 2 N 2 (abbreviated as 21 ‐SS in Figure 24, a) to N 4 ( 21 ‐NN) by means of S 1 N 3 coordination ( 21 ‐SN) 81,82. Compound 21 ‐SS is obtained selectively by the ligand‐substitution reaction of the dichloride Pt II precursor, [PtCl 2 (4,4′‐H 2 dcbpy)], at low temperatures with potassium thiocyanate, in addition to the nonsubstituted bpy complex analogue 82.…”

“…This distance is comparable to that reported in a number of non-conducting platinum pseudohalide complexes in which the metal atom is exclusively in the divalent state (Williams, 1983). The infrared, ~H and ~3C NMR, and UV-VIS spectroscopies of the title compound are not otherwise remarkable, and will be published elsewhere (Coyer & Herber, 1991). …”
