Ligand effects on the structural dimensionality and antibacterial activities of silver-based coordination polymers

Abstract: Four Ag-based coordination polymers [Ag(Bim)] (1), [Ag2(NIPH)(HBim)] (2), [Ag6(4-NPTA)(Bim)4] (3) and [Ag2(3-NPTA)(bipy)0.5(H2O)] (4) (HBim = 1H-benzimidazole, bipy = 4,4'-bipyridyl, H2NIPH = 5-nitroisophthalic acid, H2NPTA = 3-/4-nitrophthalic acid) have been synthesized by hydrothermal reaction of Ag(i) salts with N-/O-donor ligands. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction indicated that these coordination polymers constructed from mononuclear or polynuclear silver building blocks exhibit three typical structure fe… Show more

“…Through contrasting antibacterial activities of proportional AgNO 3 (1 mg/ml AgNO 3 E5 mg/ml tested compound 2), we ascribed mainly antibacterial activities to the Ag component (Fig. S14) [52][53][54][55][56]. Because our compounds are all insoluble solid materials and the antibacterial effect slow release, which causes effect of the compounds is slightly lower than that of pure AgNO 3 .…”

“…[159,160] The structural building blocks in MOFs are linked via coordination bonds. [162,163] Some reports incorporated bactericidal silver or silver-containing complexes, [164][165][166] and have shown to exhibit good antibacterial results due to leaching of silver ion. [161] Some MOFs have found to be bactericidal and these can be used as an excellent substitute for carbon-based pretreatment in water purification because of its good adsorption capability and added antibacterial properties.…”

“…Given that silver and silver-based compounds were found to inhibitt he growth of numerous typeso fb acteria, Lu et al [63] synthesized four silver-based complexes and tested their antibacterialp roperties against S. aureus F1557 and E. coli F1693. The results indicated that these complexes are capable of killing various kinds of bacteria and possessl ong-lasting efficacy.…”
