Ligand‐Centered Radical Activity by a Zinc‐Schiff‐Base Complex towards Catechol Oxidation

Abstract: In this work, we present the synthesis and structural characterization of a new Zn(II)‐Schiff base complex, [Zn(L)(H2O)] (1), [L=N,N′‐bis(3‐methoxysalicylidene)‐1,3‐diamino‐2‐propanol]. Single crystal X‐ray structural analysis reveals that 1 crystallizes in monoclinic system with P21/c space group. The compound shows good photo‐luminescence property in methanol medium. This Zn(II) complex has been evaluated as a catalytic system in the catalytic oxidation of 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylcatechol (DTBC) in methanol. The Zn… Show more

“…The compartmental Schiff base, H 3 L and its diiron(III) complex were prepared following a reported synthetic route [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. The Schiff base was synthesized by condensing salisaldehyde (2 mmol, 0.244 g) and 1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (1 mmol, 0.086 g) in 25 mL ethanol under reflux for ~10h.…”

“…The presence of hydrogen peroxide was used to detect the participation of oxygen in the oxidative dimerization of 2‐AP following the reported procedure. [ 39,40 ] During the oxidation of aminophenol with methanol, the solution was acidified with H 2 SO 4 until the pH value of the solution changed to 2. After a period of time, an equal amount of water was added to prevent further oxidation.…”

“…The Schiff base, H 3 L and its tetra-cobalt(III) complex were prepared following a reported literature [30][31][32][33] . To synthesis H 3 L, O-vanillin (0.3060g, 2 mmol) was mixed with 1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (0.0890g, 1 mmol) in 40 ml methanol and kept on magnetic stirrer for ~2h.…”
