In hospitals the monitoring of patient is usually done manually with the help of nursing staff for 24 x 7. The availability of nursing staff to monitor the health of critically ill patients or new born infant is very difficult task and requires a lot of man power. In case, of absence or delay the health of patient can become critical and can be fatal. In order to solve this many wireless technologies have been proposed to monitor the patient’s condition using different sensors but these wireless schemes are harmful for patients/infants and can even interface with medical devices. In order to develop hospital friendly monitoring system, Li-Fi based health monitoring-based system has been proposed which measure the heart rate, temperature and motion in case of infants and the data is continuously displayed on LCD. In case of any abnormalities, the relevant staff will be notified.

Los altos requerimientos inalámbricos en acceso, capacidad y seguridad que demanda la sociedad actual junto con la gran congestión del espectro radioeléctrico ha llevado a buscar nuevas soluciones tecnologías como es la Fidelidad de la Luz (Li-Fi). Este artículo presenta el diseño e implementación de un sistema de comunicaciones Li-Fi dentro de un ambiente indoor utilizado la técnica de modulación OFDM óptica con recorte asimétrico (ACO-OFDM) a través del software MATLAB. El desempeño del sistema se analiza en términos de la tasa de error de bit (BER) y la relación energía de bit a potencia de ruido (Eb/No) teniendo en cuenta la posición del receptor, orden de modulación QAM y velocidad de transmisión. Los resultados muestran que el desempeño del sistema depende directamente de la posición del receptor, además para altas tasas de transmisión el efecto multitrayectoria degrada el desempeño del sistema.

The quest to meet diverse services and applications that are emanating from the increasing inter-connected devices including machine-to-human communication has brought about consideration of massive deployment of small cells for fifth generation (5G) and Beyond network. With densification of small cells, mm-wave and THz frequencies play significant role in delivering mobile services. Consequently, supporting radio frequency (RF) communication with visible light communications (VLC) link exhibits potentials to ameliorate the challenges of RF communication especially bandwidth limitations and interference. Capitalising on the strength of VLC, we propose a basic end-to-end system to experimentally evaluate the suitability of VLC as fronthaul using real-time mobile traffic. Successful downlink (DL) transmission was achieved via VLC. To investigate the performance of the VLC link, transmission signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and throughput of the VLC and RF Links are measured and compared. The light emitting diodes (LEDs) and Photo-diodes (PD) have shown to have significant effects on the performance of the VLC link. However, the results establish a fundamental premise for the suitability of VLC as fronthaul for small cell network.
