The systematics of energy staggering for the magnetic rotational bands with M 1 and E2 transition properties strictly consistent with the features of good candidates of magnetic rotational bands in the A ∼ 80, 110, 130 and 190 mass regions are presented. The regularities exhibited by these bands concerning the staggering parameter which increases with increasing spin are in agreement with the semiclassical description of shears mechanism. In addition, the abnormal behaviours in the backbend regions or close to band termination have also been discussed. Taking the magnetic dipole bands with same configuration in three N = 58 isotones, i.e., 103 Rh, 105 Ag, and 107 In, as examples, the transition from chiral rotation to magnetic rotation with the proton number approaching Z = 50 is presented. Moreover, the self-consistent tilted axis cranking and principle axis cranking relativistic mean-field theories are applied to investigate the rotational mechanism in dipole band of 105 Ag.

The phenomenological classification of collective quadrupole excitations by means of the Bohr-Hamiltonian (BH) is reviewed with focus on signatures for triaxility. The variants of the microscopic BH derived by means of the Adiabatic Time-Dependent Mean Field theory from the Pairing-plus-quadrupole-quadrupole interaction, the Shell Correction Method, the Skyrme Energy Density Functional, the Relativistic Mean Field Theory and the Gogny interaction are discussed and applications to concrete nuclides reviewed. The Generator Coordinate Method for the five-dimensional quadrupole deformation space and first applications to triaxial nuclei are presented. The phenomenological classification in the framework of the Interacting Boson Model is discussed with a critical view on the boson number counting rule. The recent success in calculating the model parameters by mapping the mean field deformation energy surface on the bosonic one is discussed and the applications listed. A critical assessment of the models is given with focus on the limitations due to the adiabatic approximation. The Tidal Wave approach and the Triaxial Projected Shell Model are presented as practical approaches to calculate spectral properties outside the adiabatic region. The high-spin structure of 109 In was investigated with the 100 Mo( 14 N, 5n) 109 In fusionevaporation reaction at CIAE, Beijing. Eleven new γ-rays of 109 In were identified, by which the bandheads of the ∆I=2 rotational bands were confirmed. The configurations were assigned with the help of the systematic discussion. Furthermore, the rotational bands are compared with the tilted-axis cranking calculations based on a relativistic mean-field approach. The rotational bands involving the 1p1h excitation to the πd 5/2 and πg 7/2 orbitals are suggested as candidates for antimagnetic rotation based on the theoretical results.
