Lifestyle factors associated with serum N-3 fatty acid levels in breast cancer patients

Abstract: Summary Long chain n3 fatty acids appear to have beneficial effects in several domains of health relevant to breast cancer survivors. This study evaluated inter-individual differences in serum levels of n3 fatty acids in 40 breast cancer patients who were participating in a pilot study for prevention of weight gain. “…The relationship between adipose tissue-derived lipid mediators and epithelial breast tissue biology has been thoroughly investigated and several molecular pathways related to the synthesis of lipid mediators have been described [ 6 , 7 , 8 ], giving rise to the hypothesis that the fatty acid profile of triglycerides stored in the adipose tissue might influence any malignant transformation of the mammary gland.
