The purpose of this study is to examine the opinions of the language sample analysis of patients with acquired neurogenic language disorder by experts in clinical or educational fields through qualitative research methods based on the grounded theory. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 speech language-pathologists who had experience in evaluating and managing adult patients and analyzed the data according to the procedures of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Results: Through the axial coding, the central theme that was revealed was 'although the importance of language analysis is recognized, it has not been actively implemented in the clinical field' . The causal conditions of this phenomenon were 'strengths and limitations of language analysis exist' , 'insufficient education and experience for analysis' , and 'difficulties associated with conducting language analysis' . 'Poor surroundings for language analysis' and 'less utilization of results' functioned as contextual conditions. The examples of speech language pathologists' action/interaction strategy were 'simple analysis of the utterances collected in the formal tests' , 'no language analysis' , and 'additional analysis conducted for some cases' . The intervening conditions were 'differences in views on the value of language analysis among adult subjects' and 'differences in experience and perception of various technology applications related to analysis' . The action/interaction consequences towards the phenomenon were 'demands for criteria and standard' , 'needs to support multiple aspects related to language analysis' , and 'recognition of limitation and reality compliance' . Conclusion: Through this study, we observed speech-language pathologists' current state, difficulties, and examined solutions regarding language analysis in the clinical setting.

Objectives: Language sample analysis is one of most the useful methods of assessing spoken language expression ability and is recommended that SLPs use it for evaluation of language disorders. This study aimed to examine use of and needs for language sample analysis (LSA) by Korean speech-language pathologists (K-SLPs) and to suggest improvements for language analysis as an assessment of persons with language disorders based on the results. Method: 1,351 K-SLPs participated in the study. A questionnaire was developed to investigate the demographic information, assessment practices, use of language analysis, and need for using computer-based language analysis and advanced education on language analysis; and then the questionnaire was sent to the participants through an online survey format. The survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and χ 2. Results: Only half of the respondents indicated they conducted LSA for assessing language. Participants who had a 1st degree K-SLP certification were more likely to conduct LSA than those with a 2nd degree K-SLP certification. Most of the participants who responded that they conducted LSA reported that they analyzed less than 10 samples over the last year. The main reason for not conducting LSA was that it was too time-consuming. Most of the participants had no experience using computer assistance for LSA; however, they said they would use it if possible and hoped to participate in advanced LSA education and training. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that most SLPs did not conduct LSA, and the main reason for not conducting it was that it is too time-consuming. Based on the results of the study, we discussed ways to improve conducting LSA.

The Development of Using the Postpositional Morpheme “Josa” in the Spontaneous Language of 2-3 Year-Old Children

The Josa, which is a Korean grammatical morpheme that indicates a relationship to the clause or conveys a more specific meaning, is an important indicator in the grammar development in early childhood. The purpose of this study was to examine the development of the Josa use in the spontaneous language of children in early childhood. Methods: Fifty young children aged 2;6-3;11 years participated in the study. The participants were classified into three age groups of 6-month interval; late 2-year, early 3-year, and late 3-year groups. Spontaneous language samples comprised of 50 utterances were collected during conversations between the examiner and the participants with books and pictures. The number of total Josa (NTJ), number of different Josa (NDJ), and NTJ and NDJ by subcategory of Josa were measured in the 50 utterances. An ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: The late 2-year group demonstrated significantly less NTJ and NDJ compared to the early 3-year and late 3-year group respectively. Among NTJ and NDJ by subcategory of Josa, significant differences were found in adverbial, conjunctive, and auxiliary Josa and NDJ of adverbial and conjunctive Josa. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the NTJ of adverbial (39.2%), auxiliary (8.6%), and conjunctive (8%) Josa explained the month of age. Conclusion: The study confirmed the development of Josa use in the spontaneous language of the young children aged 2 and 3. The results of the study help us to understand the development of Josa use in young children and have implications for language assessment and intervention.
