“…Moreover, all procedures involving the anorectal junction can cause pelvic and retroperitoneal sepsis, whose origin remains uncertain. [38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46] The STARR requires training and experience, both in transanal conventional surgery and stapler use, however, when correctly indicated and applied, it seems to give many benefits: it is technically easier than the over-described techniques, operative time and hospital stay are short, postoperative pain and bleeding are minimal, and time to return to work is fast. The effectiveness of STARR is demonstrated by the significant improvement of all constipation symptoms.…”

“…Urological sepsis can result from a grossly misplaced deep anterior injection; prostatic abscess, epididymitis, chronic cystitis, seminal vesicle abscess and urinary-perineal fistula have all been reported 20,21 . Lifethreatening retroperitoneal sepsis has been described in two men 22,23 who presented 12 and 96 h after sclerotherapy with abdominal pain and fever. A rectal perforation was demonstrated by water-soluble contrast enema in one patient 22 and both underwent laparotomy at which substantial retroperitoneal seropurulent fluid was discovered but no localized abscess.…”
