“…Grajo and Boisselle [1] suggested that the lack of consensus and clarity around definition of occupational adaptation has resulted in a lack of measures of occupational adaptation, and therefore a lack of research using occupational adaptation as an outcome measure. Six papers were identified which involved the development of measures of occupational adaptation, however two were refinements of the same tool, and so only five tools were reported in the literature [93,[117][118][119][120][121]. Occupational adaptation was used as an outcome measure in three papers [95,101,122], and others such as Kratz, Söderback [123],…”

“…The items that had factor loadings distributed in more than one factor with the difference between these loads being less than or equal to 0.10 were excluded from the analysis. After testing the 80 items, a total of 20 items were excluded from the scale, 19 of which (1,3,6,8,17,25,36,39,41,42,47, 50, 51, 55, 62, 65, 67, 75, 82) did not load on any factor (<0.40) and one of which (item 56) was distributed in two factors with the difference being less than 0.10. In the second round, the factor loadings of 11 items (2,7,9,13,19,30,33,35,46, 64, 69) were less than 0.45 and one item (item 80) had a difference of less than 0.10.…”

“…By reframing the theoretical alignment and focusing on occupation, progress can be measured through occupational function/dysfunction, and approaches to intervention can be provided along an occupation-guided continuum including adaptations needed for occupational performance. Within the realm of pediatric occupational therapy practice, it is also pivotal that therapists incorporate the family into all facets of service delivery to incorporate meaningful occupations and co-occupations of the child and the family (Fingerhut, 2013; Kolehmainen et al, 2013). Pediatric occupational therapists must synthesize occupation into all facets of service delivery and must be mindful of the type of assessment tool selected to remain holistic, client-centered, and occupation-based.…”
