“…Pseudaulacaspis pentagona is among the most damaging armored scale pests of ornamental and fruit trees throughout its nearly cosmopolitan distribution (North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia) (Gossard 1902, Howard 1912, Simmonds 1958, Bennett and Hughes 1959, VanDuyn 1967, Beardsley and Gonzalez 1975, DeBach and Rosen 1976, Johnson and Lyon 1988, Miller and Davidson 1990. P. pentagona, a native of China, was first recorded in the United States in Florida in the early 1900s (Gossard 1902) and is currently distributed from Florida west to Texas and north to Maryland and Tennessee (Davidson et al 1983).…”

“…The larvae of Pyroderces may feed on dead plant material and live and dead insects (Common ). In Florida, Pyroderces rileyi (Walsingham) has been recorded as both a scavenger of dead plant material (Hughes ) and as a predator of diaspidids (van Duyn and Murphey ). During the present survey, adult Pyroderces emerged from mature or nearly mature P. persicae covered grapevine material collected from vineyards in WA, NSW and Qld.…”

“…Howard (1989) showed that mineral oil alone cannot control the P. citri but that in combination with dimethoate and chlorpyrifos, can increase the toxicity of the two toxins. Ethion, parathion, demeton-s-methyl (Meta-Systox r ), dimethoate, endosulfan (Thiodan R ) and dieldrin, plus mineral oil, was tested with ethion and parathion being the most effective combination with a mineral oil against P. citri (Duyn and Murphey, 1971). High mortality was obtained after 72 h post-treatment in the first experiment but in the second experiment (with the synergist), the high mortality were obtained after 48 h post-treatment.…”

“…Draga (2005) showed that the combination of mineral oil with the insecticides parathion, methidathion, fenoxycarb and imidacloprid can increase the toxicity on CM. Duyn and Murphey (1971) used a combination of mineral oil with some toxins (that is, etion, parathion, dimethoate, endosulfan and dieldrin) and concluded that ethion and parathion were most effective in controlling…”
