“…The pinprick test using various sizes of needles, including 22‐ to 30‐gauge needles, has been frequently used not only to evaluate the anesthetic effect in spinal or epidural anesthesia and iontophoresis, but for the diagnosis of neuropathic pain and pain research 5,13,19 . In the present study, pricking pain was assessed using a 26‐gauge needle with a stopper placed 2 mm distant from the needle tip to examine the anesthetic effects of lidocaine‐iontophoresis with various concentrations of epinephrine added.…”

“…Pinprick Test. A pinprick test was performed according to a previously described method 2,8,13 . An investigator blinded to the drug mixture, drug volumes, and electrical currents that had been applied performed the pinprick test using a 26‐gauge needle with a stopper 2 mm distant from the needle tip.…”

“…Lidocaine iontophoresis is a topical method by which electrical current is used to facilitate the transport of lidocaine into the skin. Although this method has been shown to induce adequate anesthesia with a rapid onset of action, the clinical utility is offset by the need for equipment, the risk of inducing burns, and the limited surface area that can be anesthetized at once 13–17 …”
