This study proposed a robot-assisted digital storytelling approach to reduce hospitalized children's anxiety about intravenous injections and to improve their therapeutic communication and therapeutic engagement. In order to verify the effectiveness of the robot-assisted digital storytelling approach, a randomized controlled study was implemented. A total of 47 children from a regional hospital were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 21) and a control group (n = 26). The experimental group adopted the robot-assisted digital storytelling approach in health education for intravenous injections, while the control group received video-based health education. The study results indicated that the proposed robot-assisted digital storytelling approach not only reduced the children's anxiety, but also had positive effects on children's communication about intravenous injections, emotions during hospitalization, and therapeutic engagement. As a consequence, it is suggested that educators and researchers consider adopting robot-assisted digital storytelling to facilitate nursing clinical health education for children.

Design tem tido cada vez mais reconhecimento no desenvolvimento de produtos, sistemas, serviços no contexto da saúde. O objetivo desse artigo é mapear estudos em que o Design está sendo empregado positivamente em projetos na área da saúde, mais especificamente em ambiente hospitalar e no território nacional, classificando-os de acordo com a área de atuação do Design. Para isso, foi realizado um levantamento de estudos unindo Design e Saúde em ambiente hospitalar, em que as principais fontes de pesquisa foram: Anais do Congresso Brasileiro Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento em Design (P&D) e artigos de seis revistas cientificas de Design. Identificou-se 29 artigos nos Anais do P&D e 25 artigos nas revistas científicas, os quais foram organizados de acordo com a área de atuação do Design, predominando projetos de Design de Produto, Design Gráfico e Design de Serviços, sendo as regiões Sul e Sudeste as que mais destacaram-se em publicações.Palavras-chave: Design; Áreas de Atuação do Design; Ambiente Hospitalar. Design has been increasingly recognized in the development of products, systems, services in the health context. The objective of this article is to map studies in whichDesign is being used positively in projects in the health area, more specifically in hospitals and in the national territory, classifying them according to the Design Practice Areas. For this, it was realized a survey of studies joining Design and Health in a hospital environment, in which the main sources of research were: Annals of the Brazilian Congress Research and Development in Design (P&D) and articles from six design scientific journals. It was identified 29 articles in the Annals of P&D and 25 articles in scientific journals, which were organized according to Design Practice Areas, with a predominance of Product Design, Graphic Design, and Service Design projects. The South and Southeast regions were the ones that stood out the most in publication.

Key requirements of a video-call system in a critical care department as discovered during the rapid development of a solution to address COVID-19 visitor restrictions

The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated stringent visitor restrictions in critical care departments worldwide, creating challenges in keeping family members connected to patients and clinical staff. Previous studies have examined how hospitals addressed this challenge by repurposing existing tele-ICU systems or by using personal smartphones as a workaround and have analyzed clinical and family feedback. This case report addresses the experience of rapidly implementing a video-call system in the critical care department of a tertiary referral hospital that had no prior video-call system in place, detailing the key requirements in that setting. The 24 requirements were identified via interviews and surveys to both clinical and technical professionals. The top requirements identified were sound and video quality, usability for clinical staff, call control by staff, and patient privacy. From tailoring a video-call solution for this setting, we learned that video-endpoint selection is a key design decision. The initial proposal was to use wireless tablets, but the selection of a large wired video-endpoint allowed us to better address the requirements in the critical care setting. This was based on several characteristics of the large wired video-endpoint, including: high-fidelity video and sound, with directional noise-cancelling; large touch-screen setup for minimal-click navigation; wired as well as wireless connectivity.
