In this paper Id iscuss noun-likep roperties of relational adjectivesi n Polish, in view of the recent proposals couched within the framework of Distributed Morphologyt hat certain denominal adjectives( e. g., in Spanish and in Greek)contain nominal projections in their syntactic representations. Special attention is givent ogroup adjectives, which are derivedf rom names of countries, regions,p rofessions and titles (e. g., dyrektorski 'managerial' or chiński 'Chinese'). Ia lso consider the occurrence of such adjectives as thematica djectives (which can be treated as bearingt heta-roles assigned by head nouns, e. g.,t he adjective chiński 'Chinese' in chińskie zwycięstwo 'Chinese victory')a nd as classificatory adjectives(e. g., chińskie samochody 'Chinese cars'). Ishow that Polish relational adjectivesi nq uestion pattern liken ouns both in theirt hematic and classificatory usage, as is indicated, among others, by theirbehaviourundercoordination and by their combinability with derivational affixes. The Polish data discussed here provide support for the hypothesis put forward for Spanish by Fábregas (2007), which states that boththematicand classificatory relationaladjectives( and not onlyt hematico nes, as proposed in Alexiadoua nd Stavrou (2011) for Greek)c ontain nouns in their syntactic representations.* Ia mg rateful to threea nonymous reviewers for their helpful criticism.
