Lex Oppia

Abstract: The Lex Oppia , passed in 215 bce and repealed in 195 bce , prohibited women from using more than half an ounce of gold, purple‐dyed clothing, or carriages except during public religious festivals. The law has become a focal point in discussions of Roman luxury and women's rights.
