“…Other anhydrosugar alcohols such as 1,4‐anhydroxylitol, 1,4‐anhydroerythritol, and levoglucosan have the potential to be used as a polar moiety to synthesize tensoactive species (Galletti et al, 2007; Itabaiana Junior et al, 2020; Regeling et al, 1993). Levoglucosan is worth mentioning as an example of the upcycling of lignocellulosic biomass and derivatives.…”

“…Nowadays, looking for alternative renewable bio-resources is urgent and important in order to replace non-bio and non-renewable ones conventionally employed in different industrial areas. The valorization of biomass, currently experiencing a great blooming, constitutes a considerable pathway among the available and proposed solutions [1][2][3]. Moreover, the intensive exploitation of fossil sources is one of the major causes of the CO 2 emissions, a hazardous greenhouse gas and a major cause of the global warming that is dangerously threatening our existence [4].…”

“…This fact is often overlooked, as most of this biomass is used non-commercially for energy and heating, which is inefficient in terms of productivity, in addition to generating more pollution. Due to its chemical and structural complexity, biomass can be used in a better way through the synthesis of bio-based fuels or value-added chemicals [ 9 , 10 ].…”
