Levofloxacin-induced rhabdomyolysis: a case report

Abstract: BackgroundRhabdomyolysis secondary to quinolones is not frequent. There are scarce reports in the literature associating rhabdomyolysis to levofloxacin. We describe a case of levofloxacin-induced rhabdomyolysis.Case presentationA 52-year-old African-American man presented with muscle tightness after taking three doses of levofloxacin. “…The diagnosis of RM usually depends on whether there is a certain cause of RM, which results in a more than five-fold increase in creatine kinase (CK) in the serum, as well as a high level myoglobin in the serum and urine [ 12 ]. Although levofloxacin can lead to RM [ 13 ], in our case, laboratory tests (such as white blood cell [WBC], neutrophil percentage and procalcitonin level) supported the etiology of a bacterial infection.
