Levofloxacin‐containing Triple and Sequential Therapy or Standard Sequential Therapy as the First Line Treatment for Helicobacter pylori Eradication in China

Abstract: Standard sequential therapy and 7-day levofloxacin triple therapy produced unacceptably therapeutic efficacy in China. Only levofloxacin-containing sequential therapy achieved borderline acceptable result. None of the regimens tested reliably achieved 90% or greater therapeutic efficacy in China.

“…The results of the sequential therapy in Asia were however variable, ranging from 81.9% in Korea,24 to 82.6% in China25 and to 90.5% in Taiwan 26. The recent study from Taiwan showed that extending sequential therapy from 10 to 14 days slightly increased the eradication rate by 3–4% 26…”

“…performed a randomized multicenter trial and reported that the eradication rate of H. pylori after 10 days of sequential therapy was only 72.1% according to ITT analysis and only 76.5% according to PP analysis . While using levofloxacin instead of clarithromycin could only little improve the eradication rate, another clinical trials in Nanjing reported that the 10‐day standard sequential therapy and 10‐day levofloxacin sequential therapy eradication rate were 78.3% and 82.8%, by ITT analysis, respectively .…”
