There is a need for several applications and technologies in higher education institutions in Oman to enhance the educational process. This systematical study investigates the simultaneous influence of technology implementation with e-learning and traditional coursework program instruction on the enhancement and development of an assessment method for undergraduates in different programs. This paper aims to analyze the current articles that handle with the learning process and compare between the understanding and acceptance of E-Learning mechanism and traditional coursework method of teaching for improving assessment method and evaluation of academic performance. The method works on the benefits of increasing E-Learning process for educational skills as an assistance tool with faculty material and class discussion. In this study, surveys were distributed to two different universities and college in Oman to assess their satisfaction in the learning model. The findings of this paper assisted the model that may help to improve both the teaching method and academic performance of student learning outcomes.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o uso da tecnologia educacional web-based por cirurgiões-dentistas e auxiliares de saúde bucal cadastrados no curso de Capacitação para Atenção e Cuidado da saúde bucal da pessoa com deficiência (ACPD) e avaliar as dificuldades de acesso à internet, o tempo de utilização dos recursos tecnológicos e os seus objetivos. Foi realizado um estudo descritivo dos dados coletados em Ambiente Virtual da Capacitação da Odontologia Brasileira para a Atenção e o Cuidado da Pessoa com Deficiência - ACPD, no site da Universidade Aberta do SUS (UNASUS-UFPE), por meio de um questionário eletrônico disponibilizado no site. A amostra foi composta por 2.377 profissionais cadastrados no curso e que se disponibilizaram a responder o questionário. A análise dos dados foi realizada por técnicas de estatística descritivas. Constatou-se que pouco mais da metade da amostra (54,05%) utiliza mais de um recurso tecnológico para sua conexão com o mundo virtual no dia a dia e 54,56% dos participantes relataram acessar a internet da própria residência. A rede Wireless/Wi-Fi é utilizada por 57,21% do total da amostra. Quanto ao grau de dificuldade encontrado pelos participantes ao utilizar um novo recurso tecnológico, 58,9% relataram ser razoável. O uso da tecnologia digital já é uma realidade no Brasil. Porém, sua utilização para fins de estudo, embora disponível, parece não ser utilizada por grande parte da população.

Social media have become a major part of an interconnected society, impacting personal and professional lives. This Point/Counterpoint presents two opposing viewpoints on the question of whether social media should be used in dental education as a learning and communication tool for dental students. Viewpoint 1 argues that social media benefit student learning and should be used as a tool in dental education. This argument is based on evidence concerning use of social media and improved learning across health professions, improved peer‐peer communication in clinical education, improved engagement in interprofessional education (IPE), and provision of a mechanism for safe and improved communication between practitioners and patients, as well as faculty and students. Viewpoint 2 argues that potential problems and risks in using social media outweigh any benefits found in learning and therefore social media should not be used as a tool in dental education. This viewpoint is supported by evidence of negative effects on learning, the establishment of a negative digital footprint in the public's view, risk of privacy violations when using social media, and the new phenomenon of Internet addiction with its negative physiological effects on social media users.
