“…Our results indicates that B. abortus was able to increase GRα/β and 11β-HSD1/2 ratio in osteoblasts suggesting an augmented intracellular concentration of cortisol. This increase in GRα/β and 11β-HSD1/2 expression was also observed in mononuclear cells from patients infected with M. tuberculosis ( 41 ). DHEA treatment reduced GRα/β and 11β-HSD1/2 ratio in infected osteoblast.…”

“…Studies have demonstrated that dexamethasone increases the in vitro activity of 11β-HSD1 and that the application of dexamethasone in early KD could promote the activation of 11β-HSD1 to inhibit acute inflammatory responses 19)20). Therefore, the application of low-dose exogenous GC in early KD might have anti-inflammatory effects 21). The results of this study also show that GRα expression was significantly higher in the CAL group than in the CAN group.…”

“…In osteocytes, B. abortus increased GRα/β and 11β-HSD1/2 ratio suggesting an increase in intracellular concentration of cortisol. The increase observed in GRα/β and 11β-HSD1/2 ratio was not exclusive of osteocytes infected with B. abortus, since it was also observed in mononuclear cells from patients with M. tuberculosis infection and also in osteoblast infected with B. abortus[25,31]. Our results demonstrated the importance of the increase of 11β-HSD1/2 ratio induced by B. abortus infection in osteocytes, since in experiments performed with cortisone instead of cortisol; we demonstrated that cortisone could mimic the effect of cortisol on osteocytes during B. abortus infection.…”
