Levels of Acute Phase Reactants in Patients with Acute Brucellosis

Abstract: ÖzetAmaç: İnfeksiyon, doku hasarı, immünolojik tepkimeler ve inflamatuar süreç organizmada kısa sürede ortaya çıkan ve genel olarak akut faz yanıtı denen sistemik bir yanıta yol açar. Show more

“…During the infection, the liver gives absolute priority to α and β globulins synthesis at the expense of albumin synthesis causing the significant hypoalbuminemia recorded in both diseased groups. Similar results were obtained by Uluğ et al (2010), Kumar et al (2015), Mahboub et al (2015), and Hashem et al (2020) in brucella-infected humans, ewes, and cows respectively.…”

“…The purpose of the acute phase response is to neutralize pathogens by isolating them, to reduce tissue damage to a minimum by limiting them, to prevent the generalization of the events, to start the repair, thereby allowing the host hemostatic mechanisms to restore the normal physiological function in a fast manner. [25] AA causes the initiation of an inflammatory process secondary to bacterial infection in the body, resulting in the formation of an acute phase response by organism against the pathogen. Regardless of the localized or generalized nature of the disease, the acute phase response is a general host reaction.…”

“…CRP, ESR, albumin, and fibrinogen are acute phase reactants. These levels peak at 6-36, 24-48, and 24-72 hours from onset of disease, respectively (34)(35)(36). Albumin is a negative acute phase reactant (35).…”
