This paper examines a life-cycle cost concept that applies to both manufacturing and service industries in which upfront capacity investments are essential. Borrowing from the energy literature, we refer to this cost measure as the levelized product cost (LC). Per unit of output, the levelized cost aggregates a share of the initial capacity expenditure with periodic fixed and variable operating costs. The resulting cost figure exceeds the full cost of a product, as commonly calculated in managerial accounting. Our analysis shows that the LC can be interpreted as the long-run marginal product cost. In particular, this cost measure is shown to be the relevant unit cost that firms should impute for investments in productive capacity. JEL-Code: M200, M410, L110, L120. To achieve the target for building a low-carbon economy, the UK will have to build more low-carbon power plants to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from electricity generation. However, renewable energy is difficult to meet the increasing energy demand and keep lights on. This limitation of renewable could be solved by coal and gas-fired power station fitted with carbon capture storage (CCS) technology. CCS technology could capture up to 90% of carbon dioxide from emissions and allow fossil fuel power station to provide continuous low-carbon electricity power. This paper presents the levelised cost of electricity of CCGT with CCS and compared with renewable technology to forecast the impact of CCGT with CCS on the UK's electricity market.

this research deals with design criteria for photovoltaic power plants at different global locations. The ground-mounted systems with an installed power greater than 500 kW are equipped with central inverters and located in the countries of Italy, Canada, Israel, Libya and China. The analysis focuses the effects of ambient temperature and radiation on the behavior of the overall system, as well as of the individual system components and of the electricity production costs of defined photovoltaic power plants. For the economic analysis the content of the feed in tariff and the resulting proceeds are to be considered.
