Levantamento De Plantas Medicinais Utilizadas Como Tratamento Alternativo Frente a Pandemia De Covid-19 No Município De Porto Velhoro

Abstract

Studies using medicinal plants in bone repair have been evidenced due to the medicinal plants photochemical compositions. This article aims to investigate the effect of watercress stem extract on anti-inflammatory and osteoconductive activity on bone repair in Rattus norvegicus. The ethanol extract was administered orally and topically at a concentration of 5mg/kg. This study used 48 Rattus norvegicus that were divided into 4 groups with 12 animals each. All the groups were also subdivided according to the time of treatment 15 or 30 days. Thus, the groups are identified as: oral watercress stem extract (G-I), topic watercress stem extract (G-II), topic padding with Bio oss® (G-III) and padding with blood clot and saline solution (G-IV). At the end of each treatment, blood samples were collected for serum calcium and alkaline phosphatase dosage. The tibias with bone defect which were submitted to treatments were referred for histological analysis and Raman Spectroscopy. The serum calcium levels in the body after administration of watercress stem ethanol extract through topical and oral means for 15 days and 30 days showed a better response when compared to the negative control group. In the microscopic analysis, groups G-I and G-III presented inflammation, being an active inflammation with good healing. In addition, the groups G-II and G-IV presented better quality of neoformed bone after 15 and 30 days post-surgery. The Raman analysis showed that groups G-I and G-II had as results a similar aspect to a healthy bone, with partial closure of the injury. Therefore, it is concluded that the extract of the stem of the watercress Nasturtium officinale R.Br. acts on bone neoformation by presenting an antiinflammatory and osteocunductor activity.
