Leucocalocybe, a new genus for Tricholoma ongolicum (Agaricales, Basidiomycota)

Abstract: A new genus of Agaricales, Leucocalocybe was erected for a species Tricholoma mongolicum in this study. Leucocalocybe was distinguished from the other genera by a unique combination of macro-and micro-morphological characters, including a tricholomatoid habit, thick and short stem, minutely spiny spores and white spore print. The assignment of the new genus was supported by phylogenetic analyses based on the LSU sequences. The results of molecular analyses demonstrated that the species was clustered in trichol… Show more

“…Yao (LM) is a wild mushroom that is of food value throughout East Asia and for medicine on account of its natural pharmaceutical products, such as ergosterol, ergosterol peroxide, polysaccharide, and lectins [1][2][3][4][5][6] . Recently, Yu et al 7 excluded this species from genus Tricholoma (L.) P.Kumm. and assigned it to a new monotypic genus Leucocalocybe X.D.…”

“…And in Chinese, we call it "Baimo" or "Kou-mo." But following phylogenetic analysis, the researcher Yao reclassified it as "Leucocalocybe mongolica" (Dong & Bau, 2013;Yu et al, 2011). L. mongolica is distributed in grassland of Inner Mongolia of China and it always form the fairy ring as shown in Figure 1 (Lu & Bau, 2017).…”

“…Staude (Agaricales Basidiomycota) [2]. In the last decades, Tricholoma mongolicum S. Imai was moved from the genus Tricholoma to a newly established genus called Leucocalocybe, based on its molecular and morphological features [3]. L. mongolica has a short thick stem and white tiny spiny spores, the average size of spores (6.0 to 9.0 × 5.0 to 7.0 μM) ( Fig.…”

“…L. mongolica has a short thick stem and white tiny spiny spores, the average size of spores (6.0 to 9.0 × 5.0 to 7.0 μM) ( Fig. 1) [3]. However, L. mongolica consumes as edible food because it combines exquisite flavor and high nutritional value, which means this mushroom could be considered a cheap nutritional food source as a feasible alternative to meat for many countries.…”
