Abstract

The Committee on Adolescence was aware of the differing and deeply held opinions by fellows of the Academy about pregnancy and abortion in adolescents. Nevertheless, the Committee believed that the membership of the Academy desired information and guidance on this subject. The Committee is aware that the subjects of pregnancy and abortion during the teenage years are not the sole province of pediatrics, but encompass many elements of society. Nevertheless, the pediatrician dealing with the adolescent is confronted with these difficult issues and needs guidance in dealing with them.
