Letter to the editor regarding “Sinonasal quality of life in primary ciliary dyskinesia”

Abstract

To the Editor, While primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is implicated in a variety of medical conditions, including situs inversus and infertility, its impact on sinonasal quality of life (QoL) has been underreported, especially in children. We therefore read the article by Stack et al. 1 with great interest. In this work, the authors compare sinonasal QoL in patients with PCD to those with cystic fibrosis (CF). 1 The authors demonstrate that patients with PCD have more severe sinusitis symptomatology despite a common foundation in defective mucociliary clearance between the two conditions. Patients with PCD had a wide variety of rhinosinusitis disability index scores (30.4 ± 23.4), particularly when compared to CF (14.2 ± 15.8).
