“…We would like to thank Esparza et al 1 for their thoughtful response to our publication, “Incorporating holistic review in recruitment in a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) residency program.” Their letter highlights intended benefits to implementing holistic review in residency recruitment, including reducing unconscious bias, improving selection equity, and fostering diversity. As Esparza et al 1 mentioned, our findings are limited by the small data set and a lack of difference in the self-reported race of matched residents recruited with traditional versus holistic recruitment. Internally, we are continually evaluating and modifying our recruitment practices to improve this process.…”
