We thank Mazokopakis et al 1 for their comments regarding our study. 2 Albumin is indeed a summative index of nutrition, liver function, inflammation, hemostasis, and other functions. Two kinds of studies may help clarify the role of albumin. First, using animal models of hypoalbuminemia and peripheral artery disease could clarify the effect of albumin although these models may be complicated by nephropathy. Second, create a scoring system based on albumin status to predict outcomes, since Mazokopakis et al and we agree albumin is a convenient but rather a rough tool. 1,2 The clinical impact will depend on the predictive power of such a scoring system.
