Latency and jitter are two main requirements when controlling cyberphysical systems, especially in case of remote control through a network. When jitter is a major concern, one can either control the jitter all along the path, or compensate it by buffering at reception. This is usually done by the destination host, but it can also be done by the last network node. We call this approach Egress TT. This paper presents Egress TT, its benefits in terms of configuration time and applicative constraints. It also presents two possible implementations within a Time Sensitive Networking context.

Advances in deep learning have revolutionized cyber‐physical applications, including the development of autonomous vehicles. However, real‐world collisions involving autonomous control of vehicles have raised significant safety concerns regarding the use of deep neural networks (DNNs) in safety‐critical tasks, particularly perception. The inherent unverifiability of DNNs poses a key challenge in ensuring their safe and reliable operation. In this work, we propose perception simplex (), a fault‐tolerant application architecture designed for obstacle detection and collision avoidance. We analyse an existing LiDAR‐based classical obstacle detection algorithm to establish strict bounds on its capabilities and limitations. Such analysis and verification have not been possible for deep learning‐based perception systems yet. By employing verifiable obstacle detection algorithms, identifies obstacle existence detection faults in the output of unverifiable DNN‐based object detectors. When faults with potential collision risks are detected, appropriate corrective actions are initiated. Through extensive analysis and software‐in‐the‐loop simulations, we demonstrate that provides deterministic fault tolerance against obstacle existence detection faults, establishing a robust safety guarantee.

A Credibility Assessment Approach for Scenario-Based Virtual Testing of Automated Driving Functions

An immense test space is pushing the development and testing of automated driving functions from real to virtual environments. The virtual world is provided by interconnected simulation models representing sensors, vehicle dynamics, and both static and dynamic environment. For the virtual validation of automated driving, special attention must be paid to the simulation's credibility, which can be impaired by inappropriate or inaccurate simulation models and tools. Therefore, in this work a method is proposed to assess the credibility of simulation-based testing for automated driving. The approach allows a qualitative and relatively quantitative comparisons between scenarios as well as between different simulation setups. Therefore, several uni-and multivariate metrics are applied towards a scoring of similarity of the behavior between simulation and real test drive. This is achieved by using ground truth data in form of simulation scenarios from real world measurement data. In this way, the virtual automated vehicle encounters the same conditions and surroundings than its counterpart in the real world for evaluating their similarity. The practical applicability of the proposed credibility assessment approach is demonstrated in a case study, in which the credibility of an exemplary simulation-based test bench is inferred.
