Lessons on addressing whiteness in diversity and equity initiatives: Recommendations for leaders and organizational practice.

Abstract

Many higher education leaders and practitioners planning and implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within their schools and programs are doing so within the bounds of existing organizational practice, policies, and structures that are historically established to privilege Whiteness. Thus, it is imperative that leaders and practitioners build awareness of how to notice and disrupt Whiteness within their organizations as they pursue racial equity. This practice brief outlines lessons learned and recommendations about organizational practice, leadership, and Whiteness during the pursuit of racial equity within higher education.
