“…Particularly in the context of research with children, participatory research provides a medium for operationalisation of Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which calls for children to have a voice in all that concerns them (Horgan, 2017). The experience is considered a powerful learning experience (Fleming et al., 2014), and empowerment is supplemented by the more tangible increase in knowledge, awareness and skills (Gutman and Ramon, 2016) and associated confidence and self-esteem, remuneration and employability (McLaughlin, 2010).
