Les magistrats de la cour d'appel d'Angers : entre méritocratie et auto-reproduction d'une compagnie judiciaire de province (1848-1883)

Abstract

The study of social trajectories, economic positions and standings education of these hundred and nine magistrates having sat at the Court of Angers between 1848 and 1883, underlines the persistence of the angevin judicial corps' self reproduction rather than the real «démocratisation » of magistrate' s profession. Family, recommendations and fortune still widely condition the admission to the career during the second half of the XIXth century and the development of the meritocracy can not erase the predisposition to professional heredity of a corps which incarnates social preservation.
