Les estampilles sur céramique sigillée de Murviel-lès-Montpellier (Hérault)

Abstract

The archeological site of the Castellas in Murviel-lès-Montpellier yielded either through prospecting or excavating, from the 19th century to 1985, a set of 437 stamps on sigillated ceramics, among which 42 bear an italic writing. The study of this set which is the largest in the Languedoc- Roussillon, makes it possible to point out the significance of this catalogue for the understanding of the history of the site, from the end of the 1st century B.C. until the 2nd century A.D; it supplements with accuracy the current knowledge concerning the change of an oppidum site during the pax romana.
