is an integral reserve within the El-Kala National Park, Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar site. This study consists in determining the diversity and phenology status of waterbirds in this reserve over an entire annual cycle (2017-2018). The census was carried out from fixed observation points. Of the 35 species recorded, wintering birds dominate with 12 species (34 %), followed by breeding sedentary species with 11 species (32 %). The breeding water bird populations are dominated by the common coot Fulica atra, (with a maximum of 6,033 birds) followed by the Anatidae, Herons and Grebes. Lake Tonga is a breeding area for several avian species and a recruitment site for a multitude species bird during the wintering period. Three Anatidae nest at Lake Tonga: The Whiteheaded duck Oxyura leucocephala, The Ferruginous duck Aythya nyroca and Mallard Anas platyrhynchos.

The habitats and ecosystems of the Mediterranean Sea are of prime strategic interest both ecologically and economically. The Ferruginous duck, a species widely distributed in Africa, Europe and Asia, these numbers have experienced declines and changes in distribution in recent decades. The wetlands of northeastern Algeria are rich in flora because of their biogeographical context. The Fetzara Lake, designated Ramsar site since 2002, has been the subject of multiple plant surveys conducted between 2014 and 2019 and has revealed the existence of 226 taxa belonging to 166 genera and 58 families with the dominance of therophytes (45.13%, 102 species). From the chorological point of view, the Mediterranean type was the most dominant with 128 taxa or 56.64% of the studied flora 19 of which are endemic to Algeria. Canonical analysis represented the superimposition of the three physiognomic environments of vegetation (dry lawns, amphibian meadows and semi-permanent lake) with respect to environmental variables. The results suggest that the distribution and variation of species abundance is mainly ordered according to salinity and grazing. These degradation factors therefore merit to be divulgated to arouse awareness of the public authorities and the population in order to implement appropriate protective measures.
