“…The accelerated flow due to the strongly flapping pattern of the unsteady wake flow behind the cylinder(s) is the reason. As indicated by Benhamadouche and Laurence, 8) the finer results can be revealed by 3D simulation but at the expense of computational intensity. stress profiles relative to the work reported by Johnson, and as compared with the experimental benchmark provided by Simonin and Barcouda.…”

“…This ''flapping'' flow pattern from implementing RSM with a nonlinear pressure strain model is different from the linear model in its characterization of the vortex shedding. 8) The up and down flapping flow pattern generated by vortex shedding strongly influences the mainstream flow. The flow accelerating in the region between the wake and the cylinder narrows as it moves down, in proximity of the cylinder.…”

“…The Simonin and Barcouda data are available on the ERCOFTAC database a . The data are provided for comparing turbulence model results and have been used for comparison with numerical simulations (e.g., Benhamadouche and Laurence [2003], Rollet-Miet, et al [1999], Hassan and Barsamian [2004], and Moulinec, et al [2004]). …”

“…Both LES and k-İ models calculate the mean velocity profiles reasonably well while k-İ model gives poor predictions of the Reynolds stresses in the wake region inconsistency to the LES results. Benhamadouche et al [7] compute the cross-flow in a staggered tube bundle with LES and a transient Reynolds Stress Transport Models (RSTM) in 2D and 3D configurations with two levels of grid refinement. It is shown that the LES results on the fine mesh are comparable to the DNS and the experiment and reasonable agreement is still achieved with a coarse mesh.…”
