Leptospiral Titres in Pigs After Vaccination

Abstract: Two groups of 8 pigs were vaccinated and given a booster vaccination 6 weeks later each with a commercial dual L. pomona and L. tarassovi killed vaccine. Serum from bloods collected before and up to 30 weeks after vaccination had agglutinating antibodies only after the 0ooster vaccination and then only with 1 vaccine. Titres persisted less than 8 weeks when tested against L. pomona but up to 16 weeks when tested against L. tarassovi at the 1:300 dilution and up to 20 weeks at the 1:100 dilution.

“…interrogans serovar pomona stimulated by vaccination are consistent with previous findings (Dobson and Davos 1975;Cargill and Davos 1981). In contrast to the findings of Cargill and Davos, the MA titres of vaccinated gilts in these experiments rose very little after challenge.…”

“…interrogans serovar pomona isolated from them but no specific MA titres to that serovar. Pomona antigen seems to stimulate lower agglutinating antibody titres than tarassovi (Dobson and Davos 1975) and this may be the reason for the difference between our results and that of Fennestad et a1 where the foetal agglutinins were to L. interrogans serovar grippotyphosa.…”
